About Public Record NJ

Public Record NJ is an independent research initiative analyzing New Jersey campaign finance, vendor networks, and political media to promote transparency, counter disinformation, and strengthen democratic accountability through verifiable public records.

Our Mission

To strengthen democratic accountability in New Jersey by following the public record, clarifying who funds political messaging, and helping communities navigate misinformation with evidence and context.

Public Record NJ is an independent research initiative focused on the intersection of money, media, and political power. We examine publicly available campaign finance reports, government documents, public meeting records, media archives, and digital data to understand how influence flows through local and county level systems.

In an era where political messaging increasingly blends with news, consulting, and digital platforms, transparency is not automatic. Financial relationships, vendor networks, and coordinated communications can shape public narratives in ways that are difficult for voters to see. Our work seeks to map those relationships using verifiable data and structured analysis.

We approach campaign finance not as isolated transactions but as part of a broader information infrastructure. By tracing payments, contracts, affiliations, and publication timelines, we aim to clarify how financial resources intersect with media production and political strategy. Where disinformation or misleading narratives emerge, we respond with documentation, sourcing, and reproducible methods rather than speculation.

Every report produced by Public Record NJ is grounded in publicly accessible records. Sources are cited. Data collection methods are explained. When possible, datasets and code are preserved so others can replicate or extend the analysis. We distinguish clearly between factual findings and interpretive conclusions.

Our role is to document, contextualize, and make legible the structures that shape governance and public debate.

The record belongs to the public. Our mission is to help make it understandable.

Our Focus

Public Record NJ serves readers across the Garden State, with concentrated coverage in Middlesex, Monmouth, and Ocean Counties, where local governance decisions and demographic shifts can signal broader political trends shaping New Jersey’s future.

We strive for neutrality in all things, except one: it is called pork roll.
